The role reports to the Operations Manager and is located in Evansville, Indiana. As a Switchgear Repair A 0CM R18 R22 PR, you will be responsible for repairing and servicing facility focused on motors, generators, mining equipment, and switchgear and is contained within the Electrification Business Area of its parent company, ABB, Inc. This location is on a path to growth and the role of the Switchgear Technician "A" will be a key piece to allow for continued growth and expansion. This position will focus on work with heavy industry power distribution equipment, with a specific focus on low and medium voltage switchgear and switchgear components.

Your responsibilities

  • Dismantle, inspect, repair, rebuild low and medium voltage switchgear (circuit breakers), control panels, motor control centers, etc.
  • Troubleshoot customer issues on site
  • Lead execution of scope on customer site
  • Perform maintenance and testing of electrical distribution equipment
  • Interface with customer on-site and via written communication
  • Develop and maintain field service reports and documentation
  • Develop and maintain in-house work job package information, including critical to quality inspection details
  • Identify and implement efficiency improvement initiatives
  • Read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings as needed to aid with troubleshooting, dismantling, repairs, and rebuilding
  • Read and interpret instruction manuals and guides on current and obsolete equipment to aid in effective job execution
  • Be willing to support other areas of repair service center as needed
  • Measure, examine, and review components to verify their fitness for duty
  • Find creative means to develop and implement solutions with little to no guidance
Your background

  • High School Diploma / GED and minimum of 5 years of experience in manufacturing
  • Ability and willingness to travel and complete overnight stays; as required
  • Able to read and interpret electrical drawings
  • Able to work various shifts, holidays and weekends as needed
  • May be required to work at Nuclear sites
  • Basic electrical distribution equipment knowledge
  • Intermediate mechanical knowledge
  • Basic computer skills; familiarity with Microsoft Office package
  • Good communication skills; both written and verbal
  • One-line diagram interpretation and comprehension
  • Experience doing on-site troubleshooting, testing, and inspection work
  • Leadership characteristics
  • Willingness and ability to lead a group during on-site work
  • Excellent mechanical knowledge
  • In-depth heavy industry electrical distribution equipment knowledge
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
